What is Rumen Bypass Fat?

  • Rumen bypass fats are essentially dry fats or "protected" fats that are processed to be easily handled and mixed into all animal feeds.

Why Rumen Bypass Fat?

  • Rumen Bypass Fats have a high fat content, and thus is able to overcome the issue of increasing the cows' energy intake without exceeding the recommended feeding level.
  • Put simply, fat is the most energy dense feed ingredient available - producing the most energy per gram (37.7 kj/g compared to carbohydrate at 16.7 kj/g)
  • This leads to the need for a relatively lower quantity of food in order to reach the cows' required energy intake to sustain calving and lactation, without exceeding the feeding limit of a cow.
  • The consequence of this is an increased yield of milk production, and overall, much healthier cows during the entire process.
